Animus

Marriage smiles from a safe distance
While I stroll along options bay
in baggy breeches
looking for the other side of me
that Zeus took away,
in suggestion of some
tragic comedy, sad and aloof
“is this a test”?  I pondered
or “a bad case of hiccups?”

the phone rings
God only knows, where he’s calling from
And he’s found me…despite my hanging
Out on the clothesline in prayer…
Yup, you guessed it,
It’s my Animus, who dares intimacy
On my soul…mind, and carefree spirit
Sometimes, he can be a real butt with a hole!

Causing me ill feelings upon awaking me
Feeling like he’s kicked me all night
I wanted to watch TV…He wanted to
Go to the bathroom…for the fifth time?
He loves double-decker bacon, lettuce and tomato
I love tuna sandwiches…with pimento?

About four hours from now, I’ll be pulling out my hair
My face all distorted from the monkey bars he wears
He’s quite the inner masculine psyche
Dragging me from child rearing and clay modeling

Hes nightly dreams in every variety of symbolic form
Noting images of our on and off relationship
He’s the masculine mind in collective possession
Of all irrational conclusions
Wull heck, it’s none of my doing?

He’s the predator living off my instinctual life
Cutting me off from the self I’ve grown to like
He’s a bluebeard in disquise, a demon lover
the big daddy of rock and roll
From any social unit or church I’ve known
Rewarding me for any childhood state I maintain
You see, the woman side of me, must always remain
Obedient, docile, passive?  Yeah Right!
I think not!

Someone please drag this archetype from me
Cuz I keep saying NO, and he kicks me in the knee
Perhaps he’s the real reason for corrupting Eve
Yahweh never liked rebellious women
Keeping them in third world secular colonies
But, alas, we proved to be independent thinkers
With a great love for self expression
No wonder he set up EVE?

Take that you filthy Animus
I know your kind
Today’s woman must really be blowin your mind
You no longer live off the life force of my energy
Get out you ghostly lover, you vampire of disease

You’re the negative force and driver from within
Oh Animus, go find another to play your games with
Unless of course, you agree to some conscious balance
Oh, there you go again, pretending psychological ignorance

Get out, you spiritual inconvenience
This house speaks in liberty
For all those nightly dream realms
you’ve taken me
and while your leaving,
do not pass go, do not collect two hundred dollars
cuz I’m now in exact timing with solstice and equinox
from now on baby, it’s me and the mother ship

Footnote:  According to Carl Jung, the animus is the masculine side of a woman's personal unconscious. It can be identified as all the unconscious masculine psychological qualities that a woman possesses.

Just kick him to the curb and take center stage where you belong and if he gives you any more trouble just call for reinforcements to give a hand or foot as is needed...*giggling* this is a wonderful write and I can say that I know just how you are feeling...*big hugs*
