Between the Lines

It's quiet where I sit
and think about this time last year
watching the disintegration
and loss of mind and body
not realizing yet
that my whole world would change
once again.

It's the now and then
that has made me decide
to keep to myself since
my words tend to overflow
just because of the "just because".

It's meaningless to continue
to give of myself when
there is more emptiness
than substance
trying to hold onto the little dignity
that remains.

I don't swim very well anymore
and I have begun to lose my balance
and trip more than I use to
(over words mostly).
The shadows have begun to haunt me again
but I try not to lose myself
in the fatigue of facing each new day...
alone.
