Kitchen Drawer One drawer drags when I open it. Smooth yesterday, today it pulls with a noise like a cheap sound effect; a nuisance but an easy fix. I’ve always kept old birthday candles; superstitious I guess. I take one at random, head toward the kitchen. I left the drawer out; I’ll wax the glides then slip it back. One less candle, one better drawer, a good trade. For the candle it’s a graduation of sorts: what was a birthday left-over will become part of my home. A tiny pause at the thought, and an impulse. My tongue finds a trace of old sweetness, and a flavor -- yes, cherry I think. A long pause now, remembering. |

wow this was great !! aside from the wonderful write that came from this - I also learned how to stop a squeeky drawer and the memories that you found? so absolutely worth writing about, and now... you'll have that cherry birthday around you all year long, every year |

this was exceptional writing...kind of like drinking profound disappointment or the dread of contradiciton.. this... I’ve always kept old birthday candles; superstitious I guess. I take one at random, head toward the kitchen. I left the drawer out; I’ll wax the glides then slip it back. One less candle, one better drawer, a good trade. like a good bye to something you can't fathom living without...but realize the ease and courage it gave...fueling ability to change, now becoming a promise to visit you, time and again...just to let you recognize the blue arc of connection... |

Excellent write Ed.. know what? I always take one of the candles from my cake as well.. keep them in a kitchen drawer.. don't ask me why I keep one..maybe just to remember... Hugs, Nancy ~Somewhere in my heart I'm always |

Ed The candle, not gone, only changed and recycled for todays need. A remarkable and inovative way to write and to use the old for today. |

I love this! *S* I've read it several times today and delight more in it with each read. *S* For you give us more than a household hint... you write of beautiful continuity... a celebration keepsake gets a job... and becomes integrated into the home, helping make it better for celebrations that may come and day-to-day existence... This leaves me smiling. *S* |

They do....and the container does too. That's a piece of pottery my son was spinning up, when it collapsed on him.... he looked at it rather then just starting over, and decided it looked even better in that state than it had before, so he fired it.... And he was right, there's a relaxed feeling about it that's really nice....a happy lesson in that, for sure! ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> ______________Ratleader______________ |

Love your dresser!!! And I have to agree with your son that the pottery looks very good in the state it's in!!! Enjoyed!!! Bridgette "Somewhere, somehow, it should be possible to touch someone and never let go again. To hold someone, not for a moment but forever." A. Brink |
