    Doctored Lies

    I watch you lying there,
    paling and thinning every day,
    until I can’t figure out where you stop
    and the bed begins.

    Your tiny hand reaches
    to clasp my own;
    your own futile attempt to hold on
    and I grip your hand even tighter
    afraid to let your fingers slip away
    as your life so quickly is.

    The words “blood transfusion”
    and “safe”
    echo their long discovered lies
    over and over in my mind
    and my shoulders slump
    beneath the weight of their consequences.

    Brown eyes beckon, above a clear mask,
    and I am unable, unwilling,
    to answer the questions
    that lay within their glances.
    Oxygen tanks stand as overbearing sentries
    guarding this chamber of death
    where you, my princess,
    wither and fade in sheets of white.

    The doctors pass, trying
    to avoid me, the mother;
    wanting not to face death’s vigil;
    seeking cures for various unnamed diseases;
    and hoping never to be asked the question,

    “I thought AIDS was a gay disease?”

I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten,but I've loved another with all my heart and soul,and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S

it's so sad to watch a person die, especially a child.  So innocent, so new to this life... and most of the time, so VERY brave.

Very intense, heartfelt write here m'friend

Ruth, I am so deeply affected by your despairing words that I am unable to write a coherent reply.

That is the worst kind of pain ~ to watch your child suffer while you helplessly stand by and watch their decline.

Love & Everlasting Light,
Linda

Oh my gosh....I am soooo sorry you have to go through that.  I haven't been in the blue pages in a long time.  And I come back and read something so painful for my friend.

Sweetheart I'm sending prayers and angel hugs your way!!!!

HUGS,
Bridgette

Dear Friends...thank you for your outpouring of love and concern, but this poem is not written from true life experience but rather was written as part of a challenge given to me by another poet. Because of the job I have, I've watched enough people suffering through these kind of losses that I often forget how personal my words seem when writing about losing a child or having a child dying. I guess I need to post these types of poems with a warning to begin with to avoid the confusion. Once more thank you
Ruth

Sometimes people forget we are poets, using our minds to create scenarios and bringing them to life. i'll never forget YOU are one because you do it so very well

Ruth,

I'm relieved to know this isn't based on a reality in your life. It's a great reminder to all of us that this disease and other wasting diseases need our compassion and understanding.

Thanks for sharing this,

Corinne

But you have depicted real life.
Those who know do it best.
I am vividy reminded of my own experience.

I think I can safely say..."what 'Deer said"...

because you made me believe...

and here it was, just the artist's eye...
