Last Night I Heard My Fathers Voice... |

He crossed a while ago, Lies beneath the lawn At Spoon River, This is the epitaph I have carved for him on paper, Like Edgar Masters Did upon the stones. ************************************ Last night I heard my fathers voice Rise above the river of death, Begging my forgiveness For the many failed intentions, That he perceived were his... And I returned a definite No!... Said, I would not accept apology, For mistakes that he had made And what they wrought, because He never planned By foul intention, Them, to turn out so... (But thoughts of failures, Still pained the spirit one...) So I recalled to him shadows Patterned on our histories wall; One large-one small, And I repeated from my memory Some joyous things that I recalled... The raise to view the world From shoulders broad; The stealing away From house and yard, To woods and swamp A sort of teaching play, When mornings eye had barely blinked. And opened up to see the day... The finger points to where The red-bird makes its nest, The wren, the crow, the chickadee Are lessons carried on through life That mean the world to me... How the lifting of fog feels, And raises the spirits Of feathered choirs to sing Away all frights, As new dawn breaks The grip that darkness holds On little boys (like claws of monsters) Hand in hand, I felt protected, From all assorts of hairy beasts That prowled, and ruled the kingdoms Made of gloom and darkness, The kinds That come and steal away Little boys, and tiny birds, Who claim them all as real. So, father, calm your restlessness You did not fail as guide to me Your quest was beauty, shown, and grace In nature, lessons, I assure, that did avail... Which, I hope, shows in this poetry. |

I would say that your words have said very strongly how you feel, well done Ice. |

Ice, This made me think of my dad who passed away a very long time ago. I know he must have been a tortuced soul. With many childen to feed and very hard times I know he struggled to find his way. Today, I send him my blessings by using your words to honor him. Thank you. SG |

An unbelievably moving piece of writing from your loving heart and soul. As Barry wrote, "your words have said very strongly how you feel". And I agree with SEA, your poem needs a "hanky alert"! SG's reply is compassionate, understanding, appreciative and demonstrates how your sharing of your feelings and thoughts have deeply touched another reader. God bless both you! ~ and your Dad who now wears angel wings. He taught you well. Love & Everlasting Light, Linda |

Ford "So, father, calm your restlessness You did not fail as guide to me Your quest was beauty, shown, and grace In nature, lessons, I assure, that did avail... Which, I hope, shows in this poetry." It shows, here and in all your poetry, the respect and admiration you have for nature, if it came from him, was a great gift! |

Friends The joy I took from writing this poem about my hero, is amplified by the the kindness shown in your remarks... Now I am near tears, remembering, and someone understanding can do this... Thank you all... |

Some times, it takes a day or two for the best to rise again... and something you said the other day, about always feeling good when clicking into special poets... Yes. I can say the same. I missed this - almost. And it patterns my own hearings. |

Ice this too must go back to the top. I am with you on this one and have passed it to my son. Tears shared by all as his dad was also a truck driver.Late" |
