It is this time of year that stirs the relics of these flashing memories, of aging youth, of heat humidity and death. Deep in the darkness they were hungry, on a blood trail run, eight or ten for each of us, we could have failed as easily as won. In my dreams, their strobe lit bodies come still dancing in fire fight, as if their souls continue shaking loose the burdens of their bodies’ weight and weaknesses, yearning to be free. In all these years, of building lives and meeting others’ needs, I could have thought I would forget the copper taste of victory, the stench of fragile bodies burst, trail trimmings left to rot wasted in the weeds. ©2005 by icebox |

icebox - the tragedy is that one can never forget and, sadly, remembering the good times comes with the price tag of remembering the bad. It's a hard slog up to the peak of peace. Your words touch deeply. |

There are somethings that leave permanent markers during that time of our life....well, most everything, now that I come to think of it. Perhaps, there is a new phase of life around the corner which will uproot those unhappy memories and replace them with tranquility. ....jo |

Icebox. I can almost feel your pain. You speak for all those who just can not articulate, or prefer to hold it in. And I thank you for that. martyjo |

It seems to me, icey, that no matter how hard I try - I cannot relinquish what I have lost, and yet the memory of all that was ceases to escape my very being. |

Thank you all for your time reading and for your comments. It is times like this when I really appreciate what Ron, and PiP do for us. It helps to be able to put down some bricks for a few minutes and catch a breath before picking it all up again and walking on. I can not remember having that before this place. It is nice. |

Ice, if stopping by here to rest your burdens a moment or two do really help, Please do it more often. I do not see much from you lately and I miss reading what you have to share. You are a born teacher, mentor, what ever you want to call it. You are needed in this world, because you can write and teach and through that writing we all profit. Thank you for all you share however hard it is for you to say it all...sincerely "late" |
