The thunder rolled before the rain
a carpet red before a throne
and lightning made the dark of day
as bright as all the yesterdays
of all my sins atoned, I said:

"Save me from my clover dreams.
Take me to a daisy chain
and rivers run a channel deep
as bees are bumble bass refrain
underneath a buttercup
leaving yellow on the chin
tickles till you scream 'enough'
and sprouts are wicked, wicked grin"

Just before the clouds roll in
teasing our barefeet in fly...
and thunderdrums are African
as mud becomes the red earth fried

sticking to our feet we run,
dotting daisy-eyed, the sky
stiffening our skirts in sun
as we lay ourselves to dry

in the thunder before rain

laughing in collapse, we tried--

soaking up the sun.

Not only did I get this one, I adored it.  The images of girls playing in the rain, then sprawling out on the grass to dry in the sun is a picture I will be in one day down there, yes I will!

Oh, and I loved those lines up there too.

Some poems -- ya just read 'em, and sit there wishing you'd written 'em yourself.....love the balance in this, and the sense of inevitability as it moves.
