The Sound of Hunger

Listen to the thunderous sound
Not of the earth that quakes
But rather of the heartbeat of a
Hungry child who wakes

Only death can silence rumblings
Of the destitute, unleashing tears
And shrieks of anguish in profusion
From the storehouse of a mother’s fears

Even flowing springs do not equate
To this, a heart  that holds a fathom’s depth
And lungs made to inhale the pain
Of every cutting breath

There are no words that can compete
With truth, no phrase for heavy laden eyes
That would entice them to admit
The blueness of ethereal skies

And yet the earth spins in her favor
Marking time for wounds to close the gaping hole
And trace a vivid scar
Across the bosom of her soul

For this alone, she is at peace
That only once a child is captured by the stars
For twice would be too much for even a soul as hers
Adorned and draped in furrowed scars

Of all the sorrow in this world it is the empty eyes of those children that seems to bore holes right into your heart and you told that well.

Look at the time?  I am up!  Practicing for the ladies you see, I can do it if I have to.  It is 6:36 a.m. and quite nice out there (haven't seen that for a while, LOL.

I wish I'd gotten up at 5:30am to read this gem from your magnanimous heart, Liz...
