~*~

You were waves lapping at my feet
the beaded strand in the star light.
You were the sun and moon
engaging the sea,
slipping away on the horizon.

Casting nets from all sides,
you were the buoy that kept me afloat
and I knew no other way
than to hold you close.
Until time took it's toll, over time.

So I went about untangling the ties
and sordid lines,
washing away my resolve into nothingness
through the course of forty knots and fickle winds
blowing in all directions.

It is those turn of events that go unnoticed.
Those weights and measures
that sink to the bottom,
buried beneath blue ocean's of hope
dragging my heart down.

Sifting through scattered sand
slows the shifting
that settles the drifting,
distancing the shore
and the idle pull to be near you.

Carried away,
like hidden jewels that preen
polished and set smooth
teemed with the elements
become worn and weathered from the rise and fall.

Lulled by rippled remains left in the wake
and the warmest rain
during a summer storm
when all that glittered,
shimmers silver and gold.

~*~

Much to read there on the lines and between the lines.  Your word associations bring up a lot in this.

Well done.

Thank you very much for reading SEA, Nancy, and Canuckster.

Bluesy, this brought me to a place of healing, knowing the hard knocks are unkind, and yet, always remembering, out of everything bad, comes some good, if only understanding, forgiveness...the ocean is such an inspiration...teacher...that's why we beach goers love her so much...it's the places she takes us to, spiritually.

Hugs for this bittersweet beautiful write...loved this a lot!!!

This is excellent... I always know I'm in for a treat when I read your work... I may end up laughing, I may end up wiping tears... but I'm always, always touched. *S*

Dear Bluesy - thank you for a wonderful read.

Exactly right!  I've made a pact to "get even" with that turner of events but I've a feeling that I'll be standing in line for a long time.  Thank you for your gracious reply to me below and now I'm thinking that the sea has a lot to answer for too.   Be well.

You're all so good to me and I thank you.
To say I'm an emotional sort is an understatement,
just know your sweet replies mean a great deal to me.

Bluesy,
First, let me thank you for your sweet response on my post today.  I wanted to e-mail you a special thank you, but I saw no e-mail icon.  I enjoyed your poem a lot.  The things we do to remain buoyant!  I believe you have a passion for the ocean.  The analogies you use seem to come so naturally
for you.  Very much enjoyed.

I don't think there is anyone that can use the sea metaphorically as well as you do.  You squeeze every emotion out until we are indeed dry.  Lovely.

This brought back both poignant and yes, terrible memories...of trying to keep something afloat, when the raft had already been beached, its ties unraveled...

A beautiful piece of work, Lori.  Thank you.

Memories and tears...oddly comforting at times. I like your tender heart ya' know.

Thank you again for leaving your comforting reply,  Larry~
I can only hope that I am thought of in the same light after the storms have passed.
