Snagged Sharp Pyracantha thorns unseen On reaching gnarled branch of green Seemed resolute to catch my eye And snagged my sleeve as I passed by Then turning to release the hold Of spiny hooks in cotton fold My dire movements couldn’t untwist Entangled spikes around my wrist And then I saw, tucked in her care, The reason she had held me there If not for unrelenting thorn I wouldn’t have noticed life’s unborn For cradled deep within her breast Three aqua jewels in downy nest Protected by a prickly host From hands that get a bit too close The architect had placed it such That I could see, but never touch Elizabeth Santos |

What a joy to read this, this morning... There are reasons for fire-thorns and frost (frost is very heavy this morning, here in the mountains of Tioga county) "The architect had placed it such That I could see, but never touch" I have to read poems such as this to remind myself that I do not have to know the reasons for all things...Neither the beauty of a birds egg, or the terror thoughts of frozen plants....all have hidden answers... Your words have given me the little boost in faith that I needed this morning, to face what nature has given today and what it has taken away... -----------ice/ford ><> |

this was my first morning read, and overjoyed at seeing you in there again, posting, never a time upon reading you, I'm disappointed...much more, spiritually lifted and graced to have had the opportunity to spend a moment in your mind....a very beautiful one at that. Thank you Liz |

This was delightful and picturesque, yet feeling the motion and surprise of what you saw. Enjoyed this read. |

Liz....you are so lovely...and this poem is very special. Think what a wonderful world it would be, if everyone looked at things the way you do! |

I never knew they came in purple too! Canadian ones are only yellow, orange or white. This plants berries make the most delicious jelly, do you make it? Sweet Lizzie, you remind us all to take notice of the things around us, and respect their maker that is for sure. Happy Birthday my dear friend, and here's to many, many more! |
