It’s a cold wind that blows today
and feet bedecked in woolen socks
remain as icicles.

Shoots so the pain of such
through calves, knees, into hip
and settles there inside
a reminder of the times.

Sad and weary are the times
when heart remains outside
there to shiver, tremble, shake,
the loneliness around
like leaves from yonder tree
flying haphazardly
in this contemporary air.

And with the march of time
who doesn’t slip and slide
in tandem and in tune with
the seasons of a life
bringing forth the brambles, thorns,
before and also after
a forever love?

Through the mist of one who fears
there on the wall a picture
or a statue carved in stone
upright, forthright, bold,
as a woman’s known to be
and I wonder, is it me?

But mine is the face of fear
and she my mystic twin
bringing forth the brambles, thorns,
and cold into my bones
for reasons unbeknown
and for how long I can’t say.

It’s a cold wind that blows today
and tomorrow I may pray –
yes, tomorrow when it’s too late,
too late to save my soul!

Dear Helen...because you are very special, you see not only what is light, but what hides in the dark.

Thank you, Martie, for the read.  Yes, many things hide in the dark - too many to know and understand.  Shadows - yes, there are shadows.

Thanks Midnitesun.  At the end of the day we're only left with the scars ... and scars only hurt the ego.
