WIND SONG

She must have been the wind song of November
That touched my ear and cradled me to sleep
She must have been the warmth that I remember
That still enfolds my essence when I weep

She must be April’s promises of splendors
About to drape the earth in floral bliss
It is the hope that winter‘s blanket renders
When greeted by a sweet maternal kiss

She must have harbored all of wisdom’s glory
And laid it there beside me on my bed
It gently seeped from every nighttime story
And cushioned every footstep that I tread

And though I thought at times she was devoted
To duties that I never understood
I realize now that she was overloaded
With burdens and the strains of motherhood

If I were given one more chance at living
The moments of my childhood, I would find
It was a precious gift that she was giving
Whenever she was leaving me behind

She must have been the wind song of November
That sweeps the field with promises of spring
She must have been the one undying ember
That dissipates the fears that life can bring

She must have been the one whose love transcended
The overwhelming forces of the sea
She saved her splendid dreams that somehow ended
And passed them on so lovingly to me

You've such a deft choice of words and thoughts expressed here.  Well said.  Ken

and isn't that what mothers do?  So completely dedicated and in love with her family...she/they, have made us who we are...and mothers are just somehow filled wiht an endless love...powerful and able to endure....
Hugs to you dear poetess for a unique and amazing write...brings tears to the heart...with lots of memories...and to think of all we had because they sacrificed for us.
Incredible!
