I'd Walk With You

I’d walk with you in quiet places,
down through streets of brown and flower,
where the grown up houses wait for us
all dressed up in white and green,
and the roses climb proud in white and red,
their colors echoing a hundred summers.
We’d walk where time is never anything but time,
and distance merely distance, where belonging
lends a welcome to the very substances of life.
The mill of life grinds all our expectations;
slowing the process only breaks them smaller.
We’re doomed, we two, to dreams and wishes;
still, I’d walk with you.
