In a feverish dance around an annual Maypole,
drinking pure pristine good witches brew,
I twined myself ‘round the strength of you

~young saplings grow tall under midnite’s gaze
upwardly pushing lamp’s light through dark's maze~

bending and twisting, shouting in turn
drinking from silver chalice, treasured golden urn,
all hearts freed of sadness, malice and greed

singing praises to cascading stars,
the serendipitous sun and magical moon,
flowering the verdant musing meadows,
marking virgin hearts in a solo swoon

~young saplings grow tall under midnite’s gaze
upwardly pushing lamp’s light through dark's maze~

oh, spring springs forth in renewed thrust,
as nature's devinity calls to us,
the glorious love of life's cyclic rebirthing
forever resuscitating each living being

This is quite good, Kacy.  I am especially fond of your loosely-fashioned meter, never constraining you but always bringing a moderate touch of rhythm to the song.  Irregular verse is difficult to accomplish without seeming sloppy, but you've controlled well the words you chose to put stress on, especially the slowing, spondaic flow of "lamp's light through dark's maze."

Your use of verbs is also fantastic throughout this poem, and the way in which you give everything life is extremely effective, by animating the inanimate, while you yourself actually do relatively little in the poem.  There's that sense of overwhelming, of awesomeness, and I really do like it.

I think this is one of the best things I've read from you, actually, and I hope it doesn't bother you that you managed it in what seems like something of a departure.  Were you imitating Serenity's style here?  I know that your own style is hard to pin down (you're a very flexible writer), but I think your experiments in meter and mysticism should be pursued further.  If you do, let me know via email, just to make sure I don't miss it.

Again, this is wonderful, and I'm adding it to my private library (something I haven't done in a while).  Glad to read you again, Kacy!

I was going to sit this one out this year too, Kacy...but a funny thing happened on the way to the grumps.

Yesterday, I saw some candles marked down at a drug store, and so I decided to forego the beer I'd budgeted for and filled my lil shopping basket with as many as I could. (All types too, scented ones too!)

When I got to the registered, it seems a co-worker had mis-managed the display, and all those groovy prices were too good to be true, but the cashier was so annoyed with her co-worker she gave them to me "as marked"--so sista kacy? I walked outta there with exactly 100 scented cancles AND a 24 oz. beer for the grand price of $2.84!

grin

Now all I need is a pole...

Anybody know where I can get one cheap?

LOL, I love that anecdote, Karen! I will dance around the neighborhood telephone pole if I have to, and then tell everyone your candle story made me do it
wow, scented candles AND a beer? I am going to laugh all night now.
So, we dance at what time on Sunday May 1? oh, that's right! before, and after midnight.

Thanking all of you for these wonderful replies, and for helping me dance a ring of loce around Karen.
(Brian? I'm choking back a thank you tear.)
