Drifting on the soul

0 posted 2005-02-20 10:35 AM

I see the abandoned child
Cradled by foster parents whose eyes he does not share
Who retreat from his stare with little care or thought
As i watch from the sky as a star, heading him north
Feel my empty womb
And acknowledge a solemn tear stroll south to the floor
A Mothers needs, the worlds greeds
As i sleep beneath the rain and hold close my pain
Clasped and kissed the seas to stop my son from drowning
But sometimes when slumbered beside the moon
And dreams met reality
I wished the surface had been broken
Lost a Mothers love as i read through prayers
And scorned at man's selfishness
Who was there to help me? The world took my son from me!
So, i ripped at the seams of Pilate til he mirrored the Devil
And used him as a puppet to show my son that a mothers love is always right
Sat beyond the clouds for a few nights,
Til morning came
And mourning came
Removed the cross from a baby's hand,
and sheltered him, maybe from myself?
I couldnt belive what i had done, to my own child!
Left him to rest
But blew life back to him when i parted ways with my selfishness
And became God again
The Mother of Christ

I have read this several times since it was posted, and I feel the depth of anguish...perhaps a child given up for adoption...or perhaps speaking to the current practice of abandoned babies in the world.  There are always reasons for making such choices, and they are never pretty ones.
To remind ourselves of the pain that individual must be in, and to approach these circumstances with compassion and insight would most likely eliminate at least half of the sorrow spent.  Thank you for writing this so eloquently.

Like TD, I have read this over several times, ultimately seeing the "become God again" line in the light of "giving up the son" to a better life.

Who was there to help me?
The world took my son

So, I ripped at the seams of Pilate til he mirrored the Devil
And used him as a puppet to show my son that a mother’s love is always good

Sat beyond the clouds for a few nights,
Til morning came
And mourning came
Removed the cross from a baby's hand,
and sheltered him, maybe from myself.

I couldn’t believe what I had done, to my own child.

Left him to rest

…………………………………….

A thought.
I think the line breaks important.

The analogies you used were very thought provoking.  Whether this is a poem personal to a decision made by you or someone you know or whether you are likening it to the real events of Mary and Jesus.....it is fascinating to ponder.  Good write.  ....jo

As some of the previous readers commented, I was of more than one minds as to the real meaning behind the intricately woven words.

A fascinating read that deserved a second read-through.

Perhaps similar thoughts of a mother that has lost her son to war...James
