Beneath The Hand Over Your Heart

Shells scramble away from me
on tiny crustacean legs,
waves recede,
the wind rushes by and away
like breath trying to leave –
even the sand is disappearing,
giving way to rock.

I turn,
look back to where I’d been,
find fog rushing in –
obscuring,
as if to say . . . No,
there’s nothing here for you.

Nothing, you said,
remains here –
and beneath the hand over your heart . . .

I die.

Lovers come together,
swap breath for breath
consuming one another
with passions fire

then one walks alone
on a sandy beach turning to rock,
where shells run away,
waves recede,
and breath wants only to leave –

because, Nothing, you said,
remains here –
and beneath the hand over your heart . . .

I die.

so much here... you write with all your heart.  I think your title iced the poem perfectly.  Hoping the rocks turn back to sand...

JWestley~

There is SO MUCH here on the sandy shores of the heart~

'Lovers come together,
swap breath for breath
consuming one another
with passions fire

then one walks alone
on a sandy beach turning to rock,
where shells run away,
waves recede,
and breath wants only to leave –'

This is too pretty ... just too, too pretty~
How warmly you write the heart~

Such deep melancholy flows in these beautifully written lines.

Good to see you smiling on your pic!

Jimmy,
As I read this wonderful write, I felt the shore, where then and now come together always.  Somehow we sense the aching as an end, yet somehow sand is time itself, and rock is immortal.  May the richness of your journey comfort your heart always.
Loved this write.
