Pac-Man Poems
©2005 C.G. Ward

there’s a tree out front that looks like pac-man.
on the left (with my back facing the building),
there’s a half-moon missing as he chomps at the passing clouds
and as i’m smoking, i often wonder “why?”

not why as in:
why is the sky blue and
why is the sea deep and
why is the sun so hot and
why do people have to use so many clichés?

          is originality dead
or are we just stuck on our favorite songs?

but no, not that kind of why;
why, as in why does he look like pac-man?

did the gardener have a mischievous spurt of energy that day
and take a swathe of humor out, himself wondering
if anyone would ask why?

or is there just as much reason behind the shape of that tree
as there is behind these words?

It was supposed to be Ms. Pac Man he just forgot the bow...or he thought it would be sexist to give her a bow? Maybe she looks better without the bow? I dunno...
