I have this recurring dream where I'm running from a faceless woman
and all the seagalls down Hermosa Beach wait for the moment
when all my hopes fall out of my pockets and are left behind
then I wake in a cold sweat, and I know now that it's time
time to make someone mine

Somebody put the hurt on me and good
I'm bleeding from the heart on my sleeve
someone better hurry, yeah somebody should
see me ready to receive
make me repent and believe
in somebody once more
so won't you come through my door
and love me

I've been collecting up all these endearing schemes of mine
and all the angels on heaven's golden shore sure like fine
when all the tired old crushes haved faded, I'm up on the shelf
lost in my bedroom, scratching at walls and rediscovering myself
and tending to my declining mental health

Somebody put the vice grips on me tight
I'm needing a heart to dry my pathetic tears
somebody better hurry, yeah someone just right
and free me from my fears
hey doesn't anybody hear
my wailing cris de coeur
c'mon, walk through my door
and adore me

Will you have the reserved space inside your cozy heart
tell me, will all your ex-boyfriends be the subject of your art
or could you devote all of your brilliant artist's soul to me
you find me in your bedroom, searching through your poetry
for mentions of me

Somebody put a down payment on me, and how
someone better worry about my stupid heart
you'd think I'd have learned my lesson by now
I hope somebody sees me in the dark
and puts me in a firefly jar
