I am a flower young and green swaying, Nodding my petals gently 'long the breeze As it rustles briskly on my leaves, As they flirt around with a playful ease. The other flowers in the garden stood And blossomed into the open sun, And their pretty petals brightly shone, Calm and still while the playful breeze run Along theit petals of rainbow colours And colours beyond those the rainbows own And they shone brighter than the sun above Trying with anxiety to be known To a little girl walking and skipping Into the lovely garden where I dwell. The narcissii bloomed so eagerly Until their petals tore and fell. They have not sighted such a beauty rare That exceeds their own petals' charming glow, As I haven't seen such a mystery In the gentle burn of the sunset's brow. -- And the pretty little girl came to me As I tried to hide below the leaves, Though she plucked my writhing stem tenderly, And wide with wonder her ber breathing heaves. She held me closely between her nose Inhaling the air that I softly breathe, Smiling with laughter as she hath me placed Upon her crimson crown of red-rose wreathe. And the roses looked with strange jealousy As I stood humbly tall amidst the crown, Though she dances and hums joyfully Stunning me blindly with her songs and sounds. And she danced and skipped across the park, Stretching her head to the pretty flowers, While singing the sparrow's songs of spring, Singing so sweetly hour after hour. As we came to a meadow soft and green, She lays herself gently along the grass, And I saw for once for all she was A beauty that none other can surpass. And she took me unto her cotton bed And on the pillow I layed on her side, Watching her gentle shoulders rise and fall, Seeing and feeling with my petals wide, A love no other flower has ever felt, A love which beautifies all things I see, Though I can't explain what it is I feel, Surrendered yet never I've been so free! -- And the aging days pass on one by one; The grasses covered with soft falling snow; My luscious green petals turned pallid brown, As they barely hung to the ground below. And she walked one day to the aprk again And sat by the bench near the frozen ponds, And she pulcked my pale petals one by one, Contemplating upon the boy she fonds. And like the falling snow my petals fell Upon the grounds of the ponds' frozen tide As my last petals revealed to her that "He loves her not" she spun my stem and sighed, Bending as she held her face on her hand, Looking at me a final time before She let her cold fingers go and I fell To the icy grounds of the city floor. I saw her in the distance walking away, And I wished I could have wept with disdain, Though I looked upon the white sombre sky Watching the gentle drops of forzen rain. I laid on the ground as the seasons pass, Forever trod upon by shoes and feet. My pallid petals have turned to dust, Yet I'll forever feel bittersweet, Looking bright upon the sky of blue, I'll too forever smile happily, As a girl touched my heart and given me A joyful second of eternity. |
