Practical Pages for Paige…
A time in her life, festooning a week sprawling before her, planning with a near/dear friend of days apart in age, a thirteen spring fling of party anticipate for next weekend…
but today? An anniversary of birth and where did four thousand seven hundred forty-five days go, anyway? Even though, forgive me, one day at a time...
Your gifts will be pleasurable and many, m’love, but grandmother looked ahead, to a time when a storm may hit, telepathic lines go down, and candles may guide you to a notebook, yes, that notebook, where thoughts will keep you alive with memories of all you’ve known…
and you will search for a word, a phrase, a way to nick a thought forward, so our gift to you,
practical beyond belief, heavy with time over time, a gift of books of words…
a lowly dictionary and a wandering thesaurus…
to guide you to mapping words that will shape destiny’s child.
I love you, Paige.
Grandma

The beauty of your heart and enormous size of your love is so apparent in this poem. One thing is lacking though...her photo! Happy birthday Paige!

I've understood something from your words
I didn't take a book I words that I still remember, I took knowledge of what would happen, I took plans of how things never done would be done, and an acknowledgement and a word I gave that prevent honouring my family removed from the next of kin, changed the identify of my wife Jean to my brother's partner, cut the phones off, while they had her committed and vanished from life.
It took my wife ringing around hospitals in London to find her and then the social worker and then what my family had done.
One call from them told me I have a day to get to where we had lived to take anything I wanted.
My mother talked to about birds flying over when we talked and I could have taken anything that night I wanted.
I dont have that mentality.

Lauren? She hasn't seen this yet, I'm sure, but who knows...someday she may. Right now? She's a supremely busy teenager with all rights bestowed - including making cheerleader during the week of her birthday...and that is not a simple task anymore. First all of the grades have to be above par, and second...she has to have recommendations from her teachers...and THEN they judge on talent, enthusiasm, and spark.
Am I proud?
Indeed I am, because she also insists on being a good role model for all of her cousins...
a grandmother couldn't ask for much more.
Thank you, everyone, for reading...
she is indeed, a little gem...

Sunshine,
My dad's last gift to me was a dictionary. Could I help but to relate to your touching poem? I didn't realize the value words held until the last few years. The dictionary has proven to be a treasure.

I must agree with Martie "The beauty of your heart and enormous size of your love is so apparent in this poem." and I like the word crafting!

When all the good words have been spoken Still there stands this lovely token. Poured you out such loving thought. Two of you in beauty wrought.
Through rubble and trouble and dark of night The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light

Not only did your birthday poem of love move me, but so did your reply to Lauren!
I have an idea where some of Paige's spark and enthusiasm came from!
I wish her a year of joy, vibrant good health, fulfillment ~ and growth! With a dictionary and a Thesaurus in her hands, she will be better equipped to write about her life experiences!
Loving Light, Linda

The only thing my brother ever gave me (besides a sour attitude *G*) was a used dictionary he'd bought at his college bookstore... I was 12... and I still use that battered dictionary. *S*
This is delightful, Sunshine... so full of love. *S*
