Quilling Me Softly Strips of colored paper, folded, curled, set, a rainbow, splayed over crushed black velvet. A variegated chrysanthemum takes its shape as the flowering mind blossoms, heart in drape. Fingertips touch lightly over mauves and creamy hues, blending celestial blues with sprigs of green to recreate the views. I’ve set the rush of time aside to gain the upper hand, to capture lovely sceneries I’ve seen throughout the land. The scent evades, but not the touch of see or feel. I hope to capture a bit of the essence of Mother Nature’s reel. And so I’ll twist and curl these bits of papered fantasies, from cherished memories of Mother Nature’s best realities. |

Thanks, Donna. This is a rarity for me, to attempt a rhyming scheme without losing the feeling of spontaneity. For those who may not be familiar with Quilling, it is a very old 3D paper craft/art once used to embellish religious texts. |

Midnitesun, I could feel the paper quilling and visualize the reeling! Ah, such refreshment after a long day! (think I'll keep this in the library with many others for further refreshment!) sadie |

Kacy...I knew the moment I saw the title that you were not referring to writing... at an exhibit some years back, I saw some highly exquisite quilling...intricate and graceful, it indeed had a sense of poetic artistry about it, with all the fragileness of a new born child...even though it was quite old. It takes a talent of supreme patience and the undeniable ability of one who can even see beyond origami...at least, that's my thinking... beautiful subject, set to beautiful words! |

I am humbled by all these replies! Thanks! I love quilling, and am ready to begin this artform again as soon as I can get the supplies. Years ago I created a 3D collage (copied in part from a crafts book) of variegated pink and white oriental chrysanthemums, with a vibrant variegated blue hummingbird hovering nearby, all mounted on crushed black velvet then set under glass, within a red velvet border in a black lacquered frame. It was stunning, I admit, and took the blue ribbon in applied design at a county fair. I gave it to my mother for mother's day, but alas, after she died, my step-father apparently threw it away. I intend to re-create this piece very soon. |

Kacy "I’ve set the rush of time aside to gain the upper hand, to capture lovely sceneries I’ve seen throughout the land." That's it, that's the way we adjust and "gain the upper hand". Oh, the rush of time is strong and hard to fight...but we must enjoyed ---------ice/ford ><> |

Midnitesun, A very artistic and creative piece of poetry! Liked your play on words in the title a bunch, too. I was even more impressed when I read your response about the piece of art given to your mother. I have never attempted quilling, but I did have a course that introduced paper scoring--I loved seeing the 2-D turn into 3-D with careful movements of the fingers after the paper had been scored with an exacto knife. I bet your creation was incredibly delicate. Inspiring. sadie |
