Poor Man’s Limousine There are times in life when reality swirls headlong into visions of rundown mortality. Unexpected, dramatic, bringing tears for another. The tears, for a lady, who does not know me- Not realizing I have sorrow for her twisted, bent body. It has been six years since I’ve traveled on this Poor Man’s Limousine............... known as public transportation. Winding down back streets that once was filled with manicured lawns and painted houses of brilliant white. Now the street filled with boarded windows and broken glass. Garbage dances on heavy feet across neglected porches while caressing broken swings. Life, in her mysterious way, pounds misery into my bewildered memories of yesterday. I sit and wonder...... what has happened to this once sunny street that was filled with laughing children? What has happened to the music that penetrated the heart with melodies of nature’s reverberating beauty? The woman, I remember her in her younger days. Wearing a brown coat, light brown hair and slightly bent with time. She always had a smile for everyone that stepped upon the swaying Poor Man’s Limousine. She had rosy cheeks that caressed her gentle face that always glowed with friendliness. Now.........As I watch her trying to get upon her feet- I stifle a tear and bury a lump in my throat. She is bent, looking at the ground, unable to straighten to see the beautiful, warming sun. No smile- Only pain streaking across her determined countenance trying with each painful step to leave The Poor Man’s Limousine. She has been on my mind these past few days- So I put this sorrow I feel for her into writing Pouring out my anguish on the realities of life About life and riding on the Poor Man’s Limousine. Hi there JL Glad you liked. I kept thinking about the lady on the bus. So I decided to write about her. The pain I feel for her brings me to tears. It just hit me as I watched her trying so hard to get off the bus. See Ya my friend. Hugs BonBon ![]() |

Loved this.I know the lady you described. She comes to work every morning at seven on a Senior bus transportation. Those who do not know her would be surprised indeed. She refuses to tell her age and everyone wonders and some not too tactful, ask her. She plays a game of acting dumb, and never tells. Her mind is sharp and she has memories I will never have. Her life was full and if anyone cared to sit and listen she could tell you wonders of what she has seen. But others, much younger, who work there with her laugh and make fun of her hunching, side bent walk. Yet, she greets people with a smile and tries to spread cheer every day. She will be missed but she does not think so. Best to you, thanks for the write. marty |

Thanks LateArrival for reading. I wonder if I would give this to her would it make her sad? Maybe I should keep it to myself. I don't know. Hugs Bon ![]() |

I am sure if you stopped and gave a smile she would love you for it. I loved the poem,I do not know how she would feel.It certainly can't hurt to let someone know you care. One thing I know, we should make the time to stop and listen with our hearts. best, marty |
