“hush” I said
and put a finger to her lips
as I took off my coat and placed it round her shoulders

“The wind here can be cold”
I told her
Then let my eyes adjust to the darkness
While I listened to the sounds far below
Of utter silence
That drowned out even my heartbeat
And stifled breath as it was drawn
With a soft hand

“there are edges everywhere”
I whispered to her ear
“If we step off this one or that
we will feel the sense of fall
and know of Winter’s sins”

She laughed easily then
And with a dare in her eyes spoke bold
“I do not fear the darkness or the cold”

I could only grin
   Knowing how it felt
To swallow raw obsidian mixed with fire
And to find yourself lost in a landscape
That defied eyes or ears to describe

She moved closer and put a hand on my arm
“You think me foolish?”

  “You think me brash?”

“I think you hungry dear
to taste of something new”

I answered as I gazed at rising moon
And wondered if the Lady Blue lay
In her bed peaceful or if she raged
In the throes of some wild storm
Writhing her power and lust to move
Against other men
        Who would travel her lengths
And love her as I did

She kissed me then

And I lost myself in a vision of Turner’s Bend
With its long slow curve against stone
That hid sharp teeth just below the surface
And would tear the heart out of canoes

And of Men

I am fairly sure
I will never look at any river again
in any other way.

DS... yeah the stretch of 69 just before construction begins..can remind me of a river too... meds working or not..
Your eyes Sir are always appreciated..

Ms Sunny one... we should never look at a river or a woman in the same way we did, or with expectations.. both will drown you ma'am...

If poems are tea, this is espresso....stark, hard, uplifting, memorable. Your imagery is consistently among the best that PIP produces, and your feel for atmosphere is something for us all to study.

Sy.. glad you enjoyed the ending sir... I'm usually glad when I come to the ending of one of my own..and always think..it's about time this ended.. (chuckling) thank you sir for the eyes... and the words...

Ratleader... you sir are far too kind... I just dabble..the real masters are here..and I read them.. thank you sir..for the read and the nice words..

Slacker... where you been? thought maybe you'd gotten so lazy that even getting to the computer was too much work for you...
lol
nice to see your "smiling???" mug....

Ms Inked... ma'am, you may dub me as you wish...I've certainly been called a lot worse than dribble king..lol..
as for grace..ma'am..I know nothing of grace.. that is a word that eludes me...
I'm too hick... (chuckling) so more like shabby chic....
thank you ma'am.. for th eyes.. the words.. and the feel...

Damn!....just damn.
You sir are amazing!

Now while the leaves still dance on the wind
While the moon and the clouds come spinning
Will you whisper my name again?
Again..and again.

BBG... braided.. perhaps that is it in the end, that just like a river is braided from so many streams and trickles into something larger... I find the Lady Blue larger than my sense of reason and larger than sometimes even I know inside me...

thanks for the eyes... and the word.. braided... made something click inside... now... I'll have to see what is behind that door too...
