Premature tongue With fluorescent lights Slips into country music Humming a two-step dance Quiet string haired breath Moves rain to a rounded wheel Like an old woman weaving wool Small reprieve, in the middle lane Fat stretches of bayside and a Few fries short of a happy meal You Settled down on the porch With a giggling 70” plasma screen Penciling words the right way Nestling into foam threatening Runny eyed goggles rummaging Through whatever touches laboring women Ambushing grey clouds With two thumbs up Child hood expression Fitting running shoes With blue swoop cushions Endless bright flash tickles Hoping gloveless Serious side effects of consumption Ignoring guidelines of train smoked sky Like a preacher setting up scarecrows Reciting twilight and quiet life Hooked to waking dreams While blond nurses poke you awake For another shot of tight hugs Bourbon following imagination Like man’s best friend Sitting at the door with leash in mouth Your smile holds a monotone voice Messaging my vertebrae Picking long silver thorns From my fly ridden body Pushing glasses up on my nose Suggesting what’s authentic Drawing pictures of trees We Go mad while hanging downward Playing kick ball & slapping the wind Climbing out of my single bed Turning on the light in the hall While a deep down hunger Sways back and forth Pointing to angel eyes Pushing back the hours Across both lanes Not minding the extra weight Of a cassette recorder Playing classical songs While placing a sleeping bag for two Out of traffic Under the window sill of An overpass You Paint bridges on maps Where there weren’t any You sit me up high So I can see out over it all Like pine beaches On raised stilts Of a Ferris wheel IN the back seat of your BMW Is a wildlife refuge And a lighthouse Flashing in secret code We smile and Decide the Jersey Devil is a myth Treading on the surface of still waters Then settling into the inevitable You wipe sea weed from my cheek Scattering wings on sand Asking me if I like to swim Then wink a little While the air around me Grows thinner I reply in a submisive voice while drawing in the sand with my toe “Well, you’ve certainly brought me closer to shore” |
