It was as if he didn't exist wholly without color or shape. Present and Past lost along the way as he watched in a distant window the canary in a cage. He felt himself leap from side to side. He became the bird, and more than the bird. He became more than the bird because he understood. Understood, without word, more than the bird itself, what it wanted more than food, than water, more than sun warm on the yellow feathers of its wing. |
