mountain heart songs call me
pastoral in sound
carried upon winsome winds
bidding me return

my heart cries
hollow
my soul spilt long ago
in a rain of wintered tears

until i became

a snow frosted meadow
lingering
beneath chilled ice hands
pressing inward

oh!
i long to know
the spring kissed shower,
the thaw and melt of me,
the softening of hardened heart

to be touched again
by the fingers
of blessed
sunshine
warm upon my brow

would that I could recall
long since ceded
melodies
that once echoed
‘cross yonder hills

but here . . .

here, in this fortress
of glass and concrete,
of corner lot prison,
a civilized cell

i wonder—

shall i ever know such again?

such sweet resounding sounds
of the freedom strum music
played in the heavens
by mountain heart songs?

s.a.t.

If I wander far enough, long enough, will I finally know . . .

Sure you will Susan. Love this by the way. Absolute exquiste piece of poetry you have here. I have been gifted many excellent verses today. Earlier I was reading Hamlet...and now this. Mmm! It is indeed a wonderful day.

here, in this fortress
of glass and concrete,
of corner lot prison,
a civilized cell

o i know
so sweet the song of sadness
to get out
tell  you what.......
you help me
i'll help you
we'll break our chains together
and head out west.....

Thank you Kevin - to be even in the same sentence as Hamlet - wow! You are a delight my friend - thank you for the smiles and the warm heart you gift to me

Jo- thank you my dear -

M - yeah girl, let's break these chains and head to the ocean - we'll get a little place where we can run barefoot along the seaside and live bohemian dreams -

Hugs - Susan

and in all of this...is there any doubt of love...no matter who feels the melodies or give them...

Susan, this was a very lovely write...thank you

Susan:

"Mountain Heart songs"

Indeed I know them,
sing them often,
though mostly silently...

"would that I could recall
long since ceded
melodies
that once echoed
‘cross yonder hills"

This stanza reminds me of my Dad
who sang "The wildwood flower"
to me as a child...

"a snow frosted meadow
lingering
beneath chilled ice hands
pressing inward"

Beautiful...
sight and body of someone with inner yearnings..

"shall i ever know such again?

such sweet resounding sounds
of the freedom strum music
played in the heavens
by mountain heart songs?"

It is obvious that you haven't forgotten them,
You have repeated their lyrics in this poem/song.

Perhaps I have taken a different meaning from these words than you intended...but these comments are about what this poem has said to me..

Ah inky - who's beach do you think we're going to park on? hehe

Donna - yes, come along - the more the merrier

Dark - you in trouble boy - all these women -hehe - love you

Lee J - thank you my dear friend

Ice - yes - you nailed it - the longing for nature and the yearning of the soul to be fed again by the mother's hand - lived on a mountain surrounded by god - miss it - it also was about a bit of loneliness I was feeling and yearning for the touch of a love

Hugs - All -  S
