Perhaps that itch I scratched was temporary as viewed from its sublime receptacle, a chalice my moist lips so oft’ made merry while into it I poured my very soul Perhaps that fertile field in which I furrowed, unsparingly and deeply planted seeds, overlay a frightened hare who’d burrowed so long in dark was blind to other’s needs Perhaps I’d misread wings spread generously as open invitation to some flight to soar beyond known heights as “us” or “we,” unknowingly my love was its bombsite Perhaps once dressed and snuffing out a candle you only thought a briefly blinking light, without redress or thought to how I’d handle a love confessed you cast to darkest night. Well truth be known you ravaged as a vandal and battered me beyond any street fight. But still I stand, ‘tis you who should know scandal for that was love I freely gave and right Poets against the war is redundant |
