The Blackbird Sings Am I that caged blackbird, That chirps for freedom? Will these silky black wings, Ever stretch forth in glorious flight? Am I the pet of a cruel master, Whose intentions are blind even to me? Will I continue to see just a ray of hope, When the warmth of the sun bids my heart to sing? Truly this be a tragedy, That has my soul shedding tears. Should I feel the captive? Homeless in a prosperous land, Being fed with breadcrumbs From the hands of strangers; Or should I lie upon the ground in shame As the sky rains ice and blame Hoping for the warmth and shelter of prayers, To wring the sorrow from these broken wings? Do dreams lie? A question I ponder, As I sit perched upon the moon, With eyes that shade of the crimson sunset; Were I not to waken in the morn, Would my blackness be cleansed by truth? Or would I shriek loudly and mockingly, Swooping down into the rising sun, Disappearing into the light of nothingness.... Marcel |

Hello, I'm sometimes away from Passions for periods of time and somewhere in that passing I missed your entrance so this is the first I've read from you. I really enjoyed this piece, it's something I write often of. In fact, I'm posting one of my favorite works of poetry here for you. It was written by a man named Jonathan Steffen ...I think you'll enjoy The Falcon To The Falconer Unleash me from your hand And I will lance the light for you I'll cut a swordblade on the wind And pennant it with flight for you To signal I am yours If you will free me to be true to you Unleash me from your hand And I will mock the sky for you I'll pull the anger from the air And make the breezes sigh for you To show that I am yours If you will free me to be true to you Unleash me from your hand And I will jewel it bright for you I'll hunt the treasures of the wind And pluck them into sight for you To show that I am yours If you will free me to be true to you O, cast me from your hand That I may show my love for you And throw me to the wind That I may know my need for you All darkness on your hand I'm hooded, pinned, and held by you O, give me back my wings That they may bring me back to you ~~Jonathan Steffen I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S |

We've had Blackbirds deign to use our garden for years. They alternate between us and the neighbours. I watched Blackie bring his daughter into my greenhouse while he pointed at the best bits. Blackie is now very old, well beyond his prime living at the back of the compost bins, popping out at times. Henny, his daughter chose to stay and little Hennies treat our garden as they want. The thing I suppose I like most of all, is that I will sit down, mind my own business with a book, look up and find a bird 2 foot away looking at me. Blackbirds have been a treat to us for years and we can try and bribe them but they go where they want, to who they want and where they want. I liked your words but keeping Blackbirds in capitivity is wrong and the Blackbirds who visit us, are birds treating us as dining in different restaurants. Dave |

love the mood in this - the thoughts and questions love this image: As I sit perched upon the moon, With eyes that shade of the crimson sunset; well done - Susan If I wander far enough, long enough, will I finally know . . . |

Your writing is always so diversified. The perspective in this one through the eyes of the Blackbird is very captivating and provocative. This will hold a shelf in my library. Bravo. .....jo |
