In 1845 there did appear
A poem in the New York Evening Mirror
A small beginning for this bit of rhyme
That would be called the greatest of its time.

A bird on pedestal above a door
One single word its only stock and store.
The Raven was its name, as you well know
A gift to us from Edgar Allen Poe.

In 1963 a final trod
Down roads not taken led the way to God.
With no more miles to go before sleep fell
The world bid Robert Frost a fond farewell.

Two giants in the world of poetry
Left milestones on this day in history.

Quoth this wondrous sonnet - "Nevermore"

My Deerest Buddy - Thank you for this January 29th Sonnet...

The girls and I (Denise, Liz, Titia and I) have a little treat for you as well...

This is, in fact, Poe's real raven.  He safely resides for eternity in this encasement at the Philadelphia Public Library.

Excursion compliments of Liz Santos
Library tour compliments of Denise
Photograph compliments of Titia Geertman (see her reflection?)
Photo delivery compliments of yours truly

Now - What can we do about Robert Frost?
...Big SMOOCHES from all of us...

Your disappearing into thin air and dipriving us from your wonderful tales for a long time is all forgiven dear friend Balladeer, after presenting this beautiful sonnet.

As Nan said, we've seen this Raven in person, well he was not alive, he was dead, but still, he was there, right in front of us. And if you want to see him a bit closer, than click this link http://www.usefilm.com/image/110972.html
(the photo is too big to put in here)

Thanks Deer, you brought back a lot of good memories into this Dutchies head and heart.

Nan, I thank you and the ladies for the joint effort in bringing me that wonderful pic - wish I could have been there!

For all of you, I thank you for such warm responses and I feel like it's time to get back to writing...now if I can just convince my muse

Anytime you want a tour, you've got one, 'Deer! This place is full of history, literary and otherwise. I'm sure you would appreciate it.

And thanks for the sonnet! It's about time! I guess your muse is as stubborn as mine.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Nan and Titia. It's been way too long.

And Martie? Maybe next trip east you'll get to Philly too!

Yes Deer, get back to writing and get that muse of you going, holidays are over.

Take up that pen and write some witty words
Your muse will come around when you start first
We've been like in a desert full of sand
Without your humor we will die of thirst

And when you're done, just press the button hard
Sending words of wit floating on sky's cloud
I know you're filling hearts with joy and such
I'll promise that I will not laugh too loud

It's been too long, Sir Balladeer, sweet friend
Let's hear some laughter in these pages blue
And I am sure that Toe and John will reappear
When they will spot those nagging words from you

A challenge would be very nice I think
So write me a poem about a Yankee 'bink'

Ha ha, bink is a Dutch word and I won't help you finding out what it means.

Like scattered leaves...my words will flow

It's been too long since I've read your rhymes, my 'Deer, and here I am, soothed and satisfied with a Sonnet from you, no less.

Beautifully done ... just loved it Michael. Flowing and brilliant as always. Encore!

Best wishes and big hugs,
/Kit
