Where the Roads End

Out where the roads end,
beyond the easy run
where the blacktop went washboard
then checkered away to gravel
and something that wasn’t
quite dirt anymore….

Out where dust doesn’t matter
and the ditches tire
of marking the way,
where it rubbles down
to a track between rotten fences
and the suitcase rocks…..

Sometimes there
where the last gate ends it
with a crooked sign
you don’t need to read….

Driving can’t be anymore
and you’re left with a final choice:
anyone can turn back,
try to remember the way
through the crosses and crossroads;
but there are a few, only a few,
who will climb the fence
and walk.

Because of this....thanks, Gloom. /pip/Forum91/HTML/003417.html

Ed

Very sensitive vision and an amazing wisdom in the quality of this work.  I can see why Gloom inspired this.  Excellent writing!

It's what I do....the writing, and the walking on after the road seems to end. Just built that way, I guess...part of my nature.

Each step I’ve taken
If well planned or mistaken,
Makes my journey.

With this you honor me
That I might inspire such
For the writing, thank you very much

Whether duty or beauty lies ahead, there's always some reminder that "best" and "easiest" are not interchangeable terms... something you obviously already know well. *S*

This is beautiful work, my friend... it is a gift to all of us when one poet inspires another. Thank you for walking on... and writing it so wonderfully. *S*
