We danced on piles of leaves decorated in pictures We promised everyone A chance Of the pile We echoed visions of how it “sure be” We kicked that paper mile by mile But never raised it high Just to be there and be seen We watched it spring a foot high As we kicked our heels We watched as it spun As if possessed by wills Moved beyond Our vision To decorate ideals Ideas Family and friends With painted leaves in no wind But our own I suppose the wind picking at our cherry picking Swirled and raised a few ideas As people gathered all the wind Ideas and slim pickings We kicked the leaves at our day We swirled them one foot high And people stood amongst the leaves Looking at the sky But then the party ended And we looked at the score And all the leaves were bank notes And the visitors holding scores We kicked the leaves of money We kicked the ideas of gain We kicked without caring Does the image gain As we peer at the future Winds never pass Or they are nice and gentle For our children They may last |

We kicked the leaves of money We kicked the ideas of gain We kicked without caring Does the image gain ah, some party - and as with such revelry, sometimes we forget to think what we shall wake to - or that our children shall find upon morning - Enjoyed pondering your "leave" of words - Susan |
