A Message from a Bottle

This face I see is not my own
but still it seems reflections shown
within the bottle’s rim I’ve known
to be a part of me
to see the heart of me
still drifting on the ocean’s shore
where sand and surf meets ocean’s roar
how could I ever hope for more
than be where I should be
a vessel of the sea
wind swept and lying on the sand
with message from a foreign land
that seems none here can understand
held deep inside of me
the soul and pride of me
that cries with tears that none can hear
left waiting here year after year
as simple ash till one draws near
to open and set free
the bottled heart of me
upon the wayward sea
to float eternally.

Hi Bob...I wrote a message in the bottle poem once...there is something about the idea that is just so darn romantic!  I loved your idea of personifying the bottle.  Wonderful poem!

Martie,

Though this poem kind of went all different directions on me, I do thank you for discovering the personification therein and I do agree with you that the thought of discovering a hidden message can be, oh, so mysterious and romantic. -Bob

To softly reach beneath the surface of sound and imagination, into the realm of heart and soul, is a mystery left beacon to the strongest of intention.
Enjoyed your write.

A Romantic Heart,

(Hmmmmm) ....What song could that be? Don't think That I've ever heard of it.... (Smiles) Just kidding. (age issue you know) I do hope that you are referring to Jim Croce here (sorry if I'm wrong) and, yes, I do remember that love song very well and I do agree that Love should be eternal and if I could put time in a bottle I certainly would also spend much more time with those that I Love. A very nice Love Song. Thank you for the comparison. -Bob

Dixie,

Somehow I do believe that you've gotten the deeper meaning here with your "touching" reply. Thank you. I do refer to the bottle as an urn here once full of ashes that have been now scattered upon the ocean. This poem was partially inspired by my oldest daughter's dream as a mortician to one day open a funeral home of her own on the ocean so that she can see to it that people can have this very thing done when they pass. I do hope that she is successful in reaching her dream before I pass because this does seem to me to be a wonderful way to leave this earth and to be remembered. Love ya. -Bob

ThisDiamond,

Your statement here is very inspirational and though it is most inspirational, as stated, it also gave me a bit of a booster shot, Smiles, of pide, because at times when I write (not always) I do go into a kind of realm that seems beyond my natural thinking (imagination) and I do believe that you've gotten it correct here that it is a place of wonderful wonderful creativiity that is inspired by the heart and soul of me. Again, a very beautiful statement and I do thank you for sharing this thought with me. Thank you. -Bob
