A paper doll distracted scissors over-snipped, disconcerted mouth, a confused stock’s ride over a graph on a rumor filled day, a voice that need stay hidden or be crucified, slits where glazed eyes squeeze tears and navigate no further than the closest sidewalk, all other figures are hazy props legs dragged to keep moving (and what faithful engine draws this breath?) collarbones sag, looking for a hiding place in gravity, fingernails clutched as a shamed beggar’s last ten cents the Sun, too polite to insult, hides compassionately I can feel the hair turn grey as I beg common catastrophe just so I can look into other’s eyes again oh, please old boots don’t take me near a river Poets against the war is redundant |
