Worn by currents, the dumbness of things, this ship may fail. Many have tried against the tide to sail and lost their way before, and nothing assures our efforts true will not in darkness sink as well. And yet I have seen upon the land, in their harbors safe and warm, the sadness of those who out to sea again... are simply too afraid. So let us then, despite our histories, go together aboard. Arm in arm, to follow the sun. Perhaps it is we who will find Cathay. |

Possible success can only come by not giving up. Giving up is sure failure. So we really have not choice but to keep trying for the prize. Well done, John! |

John, This made me think of the ship I was on in the Navy (USS Canopus AS-34 www.usscanopus.homestead.com) and how much I miss it. I loved being out to sea... Now I know that isn't what your words were about but that is what thoughts they inspired from me. Thank you. "cast me gently into the morning, for the night has been unkind" |

Susan, You are welcome. Whatever is good for you is fine with me. A poem should be a being apart from whoever had the good fortune to be its scribe. I am glad Christopher made you think of your good times on the USS Canopus, (though I don’t think that’s how you spell it). I myself have fond memories of my time at Camp Tequila. John |
