Worthy
(for a friend)

Today
I will begin to seperate myself
from the pain.
I will be strong enough
to begin the journey
back to me.
I will find a place
where you can't hurt me.
When I cry
my tears will be of my own will
not yours.
You will not borrow your happiness
from my sorrow
or my fears.
Your distasteful choice of words
will not follow me--
They will stay with you
and they will fester in your soul.
I will find that I am worthy
of goodness, of gentleness.
I will believe that I am worthy
of kindness.
I
am
worthy.
I will not cry
when you sling dirt in my face.
I will not cry as you walk away, uncaring.
I will no longer give you the satisfaction
of hurting me.
I will protect my heart.
I will take care of me
today--
and tomorrow...
For I am worthy of happiness.
I will find my own
in me.
