The Extra Mom

We eat of her food, a rival for child.
She silently shows reproofs quite wild.
Might ever we please this woman stern?
Indeed, she may trigger lovesong spurn?

Like circling cats, we nod and smile.
Our thoughts afire at power of wile.
Approval we seek and wonder why
Her eyeing mimes "who is this guy?"

With time and luck and goodly deeds.
We win her heart and sow the seeds
Of bonds so firm they ever last.
This one with whom our die is cast.

In passing time, we come to rue
The trials she is going through.
We watch the Mom of given vow.
No healer known can aid her now.

Her time draws near; we cannot find
The future of one who's been so kind.
We eye with awe her timeless strength
And somber thought of life at length.

A truly wonderful tribute to the extra Mom!

... the beginnings are never easy, you are right. I remember how difficult, nearly impossible, it was to say the word "Mother" to her, but  .... in the end she wanted to live with me her last years. This bond can indeed be "built".

Thank you, this is a great write.
Love, Margherita

In passing time, we come to rue
The trials she is going through.
We watch the Mom of given vow.
No healer known can aid her now.

It's all part of the process I suppose.
And reaffirms the old adage, how little did we know,
when we thought we knew it all.

A poignant write, and so very touching.

kayjay, thank you for this~
