"Here, I wrote a tragedy"
I painted my nails pearl
just to make this elegant
as I underscored the words
traveling my finger thus
"read with me" as though this was
a fact of literature.

"Stop looking at my fingernails"
I frowned and watched you
puzzling
(as you had a right to be)
as though I'd said
"Hey look!"
(don't see)
what is right before your eyes
I want you captivated -
damn -
but not quite hypnotized.

You walk

fine-lined insistency
"Watch me, Daddy, Oh watch me"
diving backwards from the board
How many times re-live the scene-
did you catch the fall?

Water most miraculous
cushioning her head
you said:
"I thought she had more sense than that"
cradling the broken neck
of your child of dreams...

y'see

that it was nobody's fault?

"baby-baby-baby sweet"
rocking you there inbetween
the breasts of my complicity
smothering your screams

I said:

"Here, I wrote a tragedy"

and painted my nails pearl.

well, I believe the pearl nails will always and forever outlast anything else...they'll never chip...but sparkle even more brighter with each new day

Marvelous writing...

serenity,
Your pearl is the mist of mind and not too kind. But neither is reality. Well done and I enjoyed the read.

I don't have much time, but after checking my mail, I thought I should come clarify this one a bit. Since I do write from personal experience at times the confusion is understandable, but while I won't interpret the entire poem here, I wanted to state that the little girl in the poem was just a poetic device of personification, and the backwards dive into the empty pool is a metaphor.

(In other words, this is a disclaimer: no children were harmed in the writing of this poem. )

And I know, know, I do write about dead people--just not this time.

I apologize for any misunderstanding, and I thank you all kindly for reading.

Ta for now good people!

Serenity...I thought I had this one figured out, till I read your dis-claimer.
You are a very complex person at times.
Isn't that what daddy's are for, too catch their little girls and protect them.
Enjoyed...Paul
