North Carolina I still remember when life was Wilmington in May, memories created with her on the beach, in the spray of the spring tides, so cool, and we'd hide away in the blossoms, her soft whispers in my ear our first kiss lingering like dew, under the moon down a country path, painted with silver blooms with the first fireflies of summer, lighting our way I still remember when life was North Carolina memories shared with her at the movies, at the diner in the spring bloom, so gone, too soon, and now the late August breeze, the only voice I hear her last kiss lingering with me, above the cars with the last firefly of summer, my only company lost from view as the horizon fills with stars Do you still remember me, in that lighthouse at sea? Or holding your hand, climbing your backyard tree, in the June night, so real, so right for young love In the coming autumn breeze, the only sound I hear is the warmth of your laughter, the beat of your heart So with the last firefly of summer goes my youth flying from my view, like dreams it flutters and darts I hope it's flying straight to you.
