Shattered these remnants of once
Delicate wings that lifted in flight
To land lightly on the edges of my repose
As I would contemplate the nature of how
The air under such translucence could hold aloft
The fragile frame that you were
Till death took a stern look at you
Not knowing what to do or say
As he thought about taking you
To ride his own desires and needs
Across endless nights of empty skies

“what use the stars?”

they are but the tiny pinpricked markings
lighter on the darker bowl of midnight dreams
that would bring you to me in soft pleading of flesh
that touched tongue to delicate folds
searching for the arch of neck
and a spread of wings to soar on edges of soul

again found comfort might be denied
simple ideas such as mine
for the shards are light and drift easily
in the breath I exhale
to scatter further from the peer of my eyes
and closer to the heart of me
where I add them to my own shattered marrow
that I might bleed into them
as they become skeletal remains to add to the pile
where I have stacked neatly those of other days

When flight was denied

And we were left stranded in the elusive hollow
Where God’s mercy was decried
As I touched nothing in the passing clouds
But the sadness
Of your eyes

Cpat,
"And we were left stranded in the elusive hollow

A delight to read.

Oh my!  I know someone to send this too almost immediately, and might I say that I love the idea of the philosophy of dragonflies myself a lot.  Beautiful work Ron.

Umm...gone long enough
to leave us hungry...

and then serving up
a delectable portion

Its contemplations such as this that drive the machinery.

Not so odd at all, m'friend. Since what you have to say resonates with me as well.

Great poem!  I have always liked Dragoflies, but this:

"And we were left stranded in the elusive hollow
Where God’s mercy was decried
As I touched nothing in the passing clouds
But the sadness
Of your eyes

...is perfection.

the hell with words,
just listen to me sigh.....

sigh.........

you leave, you come back...

and still I can only sigh when reading your words.

"they are but the tiny pinpricked markings
lighter on the darker bowl of midnight dreams
that would bring you to me in soft pleading of flesh
that touched tongue to delicate folds
searching for the arch of neck
and a spread of wings to soar on edges of soul"

nope, I dont have the words...
just a sigh...

I hope that's enough?

The greatest beauty on earth, is
found in the hearts of those
who love....
