There's a man on the TV
with a polished suit and newspaper tie
he's holding up black paper dolls
and painting white demons
throwing out ballots, that he
swears were never counted,

there's a soft pink lady now
she's wears a too big hat that she has borrowed,
speaking of funny sounding places
that are sprinkled red white and blue,
and army boots too small
to fill the many holes
they were told to make with rockets
near the schoolhouse teeter totters,

theres a little girl thats sleepy,
watching the mummers day parade
with floats built on colored roses
and layered paint on tall statues,
of a nation's pride that will unravel
and deflate the morning after,

she takes a seat next to her mother
picking colors from shelf bottles
that paint periwinkle splatters
on overtired toenails
that sing of pretty colors
made to pour into the bottles
made in places where names sound funny,
and the children throw malotov cocktails
on red white and blue salutations,

there's a sloppy girl with pigtails,
that sits a corner desk row
making clicks upon her abacus
shes' rushed into the fallout shelter
in a kindegarten hallway,
the year is l960 and the bigger people told her
she had to echo hatefilled mantras
and fear the fear of grim faced russians..........

1960 becomes 2005...........and so it (still) goes.......
WAKE UP WORLD
or STOP long enough to let me get off

One would think people would learn from experience, but hey, history repeats itself and the world bleeds red -

Well written-

I almost missed this one, what a lose that would have been..

"she takes a seat next to her mother
picking colors from shelf bottles
that paint periwinkle splatters
on overtired toenails
that sing of pretty colors
made to pour into the bottles
made in places where names sound funny,
and the children throw malotov cocktails
on red white and blue salutations,"

Outstanding poetry...
