Iced, in Time

Look closely, oh, please
where some eyes meeting green
blue naturally

and I would tanka for you
a symbol of timely ice

~*~

Skate the winter scene, she said,
but see me as I am,
hidden, in time, shadowed, still
the clearest of all, beholding
your light, my love

This all could not be, without warmth,
first; snow does not fly
if it starts, first, as rain, freezing rain
and does not start from snow, no,
but meets an edge, a cold, hard edge,
and tempts nothing but
falls, to encase time…

Iced…too soon it shall meld with air, morphing
but never crystallizing ever, its time spent,
having its one chance…

for its life, oh, so short…

and we wonder, are we better with sharp crystallized
edges of snow,
or more welcome even as drops
of iced rain, encompassing moments
that we would hold to, forever;
for they are not, cannot be reformed into snowballs
of flight to hurt, or even in play, build castles; no

that is what cannot be done…not with iced rain
not when we are iced in time….

all we might do, is hold our moment
and magnify our wise.

Karilea - if I whisper, will you listen?  Keeping in mind, I must stand close...and keep my promises...

A beautifully frozen moment in time Karilea..
Wonderful words and pic.

In the midst of winter,
I found there lives within me..
An invincible summer.

Where the ice river
churns over unquiet stone,
spring is not a word.
No lark will ever fly here,
nor a crocus ever bloom.

Time is strange like that...
how, even moving, it can etch itself into crevices
where it cannot be touched,
even if it was removed.

And poetry is much the same.

"and I would tanka for you
a symbol of timely ice"

Sky tears falling, have frozen
Having no emotions, sad;
It wept only joy.

Leaf-tips bejeweled by their touch,
Sparkle with the weepers hue.

My how this poem holds my attention and inspires,
Like winter encapsulates branches
All life seems jailed within the structure
But in reality, there is great movement....
I am a familiar lover of ice
Having danced on its stage for countless hours,
Which makes this poem dear to me
Thank you for it, Karilea.....

Like Nancy said, wonderful picture.

"and we wonder, are we better with sharp crystallized
edges of snow,
or more welcome even as drops
of iced rain, encompassing moments
that we would hold to, forever;
for they are not, cannot be reformed into snowballs
of flight to hurt, or even in play, build castles; no"

This recalls to me "The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it"

A great read on a chilly morn in Oregon!

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light

warming not chilling...how is that? ah, it's Karilea!

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

All we can do is contemplate in AWE this splendour, iced in Time.

Wonderful!

mmm...beautiful and reminds me of what yet is to come here where I live. No snow or ice yet, which probably means when it hits, it will be harsh.

Well done you sunny person you...

I am so thankful for those special times that remain frozen until their perfect season when in warmth they can be released and shared with others. Your poem inspired me to look at pondering in a much different light that's much more special. Thank you for sharing. -Bob

Looks like you had the same kind of weather we had here. The streets were so icy, you didn't dare get out. But, there is some good news, today.

It's gone, now!

and Bill Clinton bites your lip,
get it iced in time....
