There was nothing that I wanted
nothing I could place on tongue
so I stood there in the rain
wondering
how to explain
my presence there upon your steps
knocking in a puddle of
oh-save-me-from-myself
and please
grant me guise of dignity
and hide that look of pure dismay
finding me this way
(again)
and lie to me,
lie pretty lines
tell me that
you're pleased to see
me
how I still think of you
and
smile at me in welcoming
then hug me hard
through my pretense
and tell me
"oh-you-must-be-cold"
as you hustle me inside
and out
of my wet clothes -
opening
the wine I'd brought
as you towel dry my hair
as I sip the succulence
sitting there between your legs
naked warming wet...

But I saw the candles lit
I saw that she looked curious
smiling sympathy
at me
when you opened up your door.

"I was in the neighborhood..."

(I saw her eyes--she understood--
and dammit she felt bad for me)

I'm-sorry-I-did-this-to-you
I telegraphed into your eyes,
as you stood there silently
nodding your goodbye.

"Don't go..." she said,
(too kind to me)
"It's raining and..."
she was so sweet
although you looked alarmed
I caught
the signal of
"no-you-should-not"

I'm glad that you have her.

"Merry Christmas!" and I smiled.
"I wanted you to have this wine--
I see it is a timely gift."
I kissed his cheek and waved goodbye
to her as she smiled too sad
as I gave the festive-wrapped
bottle of our French merlot
tied with my thong
in a bow
thinking "I'll buy Hennessy"
on my way back home.

Sigh! This was touching. Loved it...but it took my words away.

Try another day, okay?   As you said yourself some things can just weigh you down.

how you take one emotion and surround it with an entire story blows me away...

serenity
The fencing of symbols was a pleasure to read. Like seeing the ripple and seeing the deed. But it struck me as odd to see such dense sitting atop such a delicate fence.

This is a classic scene, and so well told!  It is a pleasure to read!  Ken

Thanks for reading good poet people.

And just a word of advice?

If y'wanna take a stroll around the holidays, don't turn down Memory Lane.

c'mere you, for your new year's hug
'n someday, let's sit with a giant bottle of merlot AND hennesey AND maybe
tequila or rum
or whatever helps wash away this scene
(too real)
I felt the chill when you walked away...
and even worse yet, I felt her eyes on my back
