Where are the New Year’s mornings of old?
No shiny new court dates
where I must be chastened,
no remnants of fires
put out in a haste
and no food debris
scattered for survivors to taste,
no wasted nude nymphets
littering the place
entangled with house guests
they’ve sincerely met,
though whose names
they hadn’t quite gotten yet,
I’d bet no reputations even were bruised,
and here I am up before sundown
as if I would choose to survey the place
with barely a decent frown on my face,
moving around
without hair of the dog,
not struggling hopelessly
at clearing the fog,
without even needing
to be told what I am
and able to face all I did in the night,
even the porcelain god seems neglected!
I tell you my friends
it just doesn’t seem right,
and this old age stuff isn’t what I expected,

Icebox, You are not alone. Even those  of us who led an ordinary quiet life compared to yours, have regrets and "I wish I had" voices in our head. Thanks for the New Year read. I truly enjoy your writing. best, marty

Changing with the seasons - and it sounds as if some of it is perhaps a respite -

Enjoyed this retrospective -

*cackling*

Okay, so I had some mini sausages still simmering in a crock pot this morning, but yer right, it's just not the same, but I still checked the ashtrays before I emptied 'em. (Old habits die hard too.)

Happy new year, m'friend.

shiny new court dates?

Where's my halo?

Here it is, right under that nude nymphet--what is her name, anyway?

My children tell me I am as old as I allow myself to think......boy, do they have a few things to learn!  lol   Time does have a way of bringing us change whether we like it or not.  Enjoyed this.

I had to chuckle at this one.
I was sick NY eve, straight through NY day, from an unforgiving head cold.
I wish it HAD been from an unforgivingly riotous fun night.
*sigh*
though I never did care for the closeup view of porcelain

Those "days of old" surely cannot be missed?!
I know I don't miss them.
Great write. Enjoyed.  Chris

They do seem different
don't they?

But hugs that you haven't
forgotten
the days of yore...

I-box
It may not be what you expected...but
You sure sound like you have enough memories of some pretty wild times, to keep you company...and memories are always safer..less praying to the porcelain God sounds like an impovement...lol

Good read....

I remember New Years eves...the midnight hour, staying up to run outside and yell something in my quiet voice, like happy new year.  But that was when I was a child.  There were other times I enjoyed something about a kiss, and some I'd rather forget.  In case you didn't hear me...HAPPY NEW YEAR!
