The death toll is now over 100,000 according to latest reports.  It truly is an overwhelming tragedy and a time testing humanity's charity.  Thanks for the links, Sharon.   ....jo

You've written a Haiku that truly does touch on nature Sharon.

I was watching the news yet again last night and in this day and age, there seems to be no shortage of the horrendous footage of this devastation. It brings the tragedy very close to home.

I was actually watching a BC TV news station (Burnaby I think?) and they were showing people pouring in to the Red Cross office with donations - walking right in their doors with cash in hand on the counter. This has touched so many.  Thanks for the info and links where we can all help reach out.

Sharon you touch so many lives with the kindness you always give and this also will touch many lives.  One act of kindness holds much healing power. Thank you for this and thank you for sharing your caring heart.

Thank you for this Sharon.
The line-ups here in Ontario at the Red Cross are outside the doors.
It's good to see the hearts of people from all over are in the right place.

Sad tragedy.  We will help.  We always do, and we should.
Thanks

Remember Sister Sledge?   We are ALL family.

Kit, that was BCTV in Burnaby yes, and it was unreal the cash was coming in the doors of each Red Cross location like crazy.  As I told Nan last night I volunteered and went door to door in my neighbourhood handing out pamplets where they could bring cheques or drop off cash for the cause, and most were really receiving.  Every bit helps that is for sure.  I figured doing without one double tall non-fat latte' won't kill anyone   right?

Hopefully this is one time we can all truly make a difference in our own small way.

I came back to this one again, just to say thank you for the wonderful link.
Everyone can find a group from those listed to make a cash donation. I have three favorite, including one not on the list, that is here in the Pacific Northwest. Also, the Thai restaurants in Portland are all setting up donation boxes in the restaurants, making it easy to donate while eating out.
To put the numbers of this tragedy into perpective, I live in a town of around 25,000. As I look about my neighborhood or drive through this small town, I cannot imagine the scene being played out overseas, and know that every last soul here would have been wiped out if we were at a different latitude and longitude.

Thanks Sharon for your information.  I just read midnitesun's message and I have been thinking exactly the same thing.  There are only about 36,000 here in the city, maybe 100,000 in the county.  It sure does put it in perspective!

Kacy, the thougth that one person was wiped out makes me sick, let alone these staggering numbers.  If we are going to change this year, this is the event to start with by donating blood, plasma, and money for now.  They will let us know as they go, what they need, and we as human beings should not question supplying it.

That had to be the saddest darn year for natural disasters I have ever seen in my life!  God bless anyone who helps and God bless those poor children.
