The Poet and the Nude

The artist has the advantage.

When with words I hope to flourish,
something in your long, black hair
against such white, naked shoulders
prosecutes. I envy how his sable dares
between your breasts to free
darkness. By contrast, my syllables
proceed lockstep, thudding like a jailer's tread.
In truth, my thoughts stand convicted
far beyond his wholesome strokes. Aye,
before across this very page
a single phrase might claim to liberate,
I've ravished.

The stroke of a brush or the stroke of a pen?

as long as there are always strokes, it doesn't matter.

Very much loved this Bob.

The poet is the artist with the advantage....because the poet is creating a living memory....the painter has two dimensions and hints a third...but they're all external.

For us on the other hand.....

"I remember the neckcurls, limp and damp as tendrils;
And her quick look, a sidelong pickerel smile;
And how, once startled into talk, the light syllables leaped for her,
And she balanced in the delight of her thought,

A wren, happy, tail into the wind,
Her song trembling the twigs and small branches."

You, me, Roethke...all remember Jane now.

mighty fine lines!

I like the longing in this, the hunger.

Hope all is well with you!
