Listening to every heart

Neigh, Go

She felt her muscles shiver with a yearning,
struggled to restrain the need, the desire
to race

she heard windsong from the plains,
what few birds remained on a cool winter’s morn
singing against icy breezes

all calling her to come

but she mentally stamped, tamped the fires burning
quelling the qualm of inner yearnings

and thoughts raced back to the time
when beneath her thighs the mare had quivered;
her hand, taut on the reins, barely restraining her mount
but mentally, they shared the basic must

hand moved slightly, giving rein, a slight tap of heel
and         lowering in,           whispered, go

flight coming none too soon….

the mare voyaged her dreams
until all were outrun, their mutual needs
exhausted, their pairing compleat

~*~

she thought of the mare, some decades gone,
felt her muscles shiver with a yearning,
heard windsong from the plains,
all calling her to come

and she heard again the mare neigh, go

I found there lives within me..

What to say, what to say.....perfect envelope, images that enthrall, tension and release in all three levels of meaning, and the details of one don't interfere with the others.....

Go cowgirl! I like this very much!

How do you resist? This yearning is so powerfully and enchantingly expressed! The mare from somewhere out there surely hears you....

Such tales you tell with meaning hiding behind very line.  Well done!!  Ken

The imagery in your poem is Great, but even more, I Love your deep imbedded inner
passion expressed here for the race and as I'm reflecting on my own life, yes, there have
been times when I, also, so caught-up in the moment, have actually heard myself speak
audibly. (Smiles) Anyway, you helped me understand a bit better why I talk to myself...

I found this to be a dreamy and an enchanting read. You need to go to her Kari.

Karilea/sissie

I felt much inner tension in this....enough to cause a stampede.

It goes without saying… B E A U T I F U L!
Perfection in writing is tough, well… not for you.
If the bell, as it were, can be rung… You rang it with this one.

Have a great New Year!

I really liked that part.
