Three days before Christmas And all through the mall Mr. Taylor bought gifts Both big ones and small His family was large Every uncle and cousin He bought up mittens And socks by the dozen At last he found Target Bustling with life He picked out a gift For Judy, his wife As he looked up and down Surveying each line He glanced at the clock It was quarter to nine! The short line wasn't moving The longest no better So he stepped in line three With a necklace and sweater Two crying babes wailed in the cart just ahead Their shrieks caused a pain Deep in Mr. T's head He stood all alone Wondering when he'd be done When someone cried out "No one's in line one!" He dashed down the line Only to find at his hip A woman and man Two carts like a ship They pushed him aside Like a seaworthy cutter Removed him from line Like hot melting butter He rushed down to three But the line snaked back To a man in a raincoat With a coughing attack Mr. Taylor then turned To lane number four And prayed that he could Just get out the front door The line how it creeped A snail would go faster Mr. Taylor was sure this was a Christmas disaster When suddenly to his great surprise Lane six opened up Before his wide eyes He ran right a way His spot to take But wilted when he heard "I'm closed for a break!" it took him three hours to reach the cashier and he said as he paid 'Get me outta here!" Every head turned his way As he walked quickly away 'Next year," he declared "I'm shopping in May!" |

LOL... I've only had this sort of experience once... and that was more than enough to reform even someone who hates to shop! LOL One long ago Christmas Eve, I had the misfortune to be in Shreveport, LA... needing a last minute gift. The only place open was Eckerd's drugstore... and the customers outnumbered the cashier() about 100 to 1! I did find a suitable gift... and stood in the line from hell... only to have the cashier snarl "this doesn't have a price on it!" Well... the selections were fairly non-existent even if I'd been willing to go through the hunting procedure again... Fortunately for me, the people in line behind me had more humor than the poor overworked cashier... they started bidding on my gift... As more and more prices were suggested, the cashier started laughing... asked if I'd be willing to pay such-&-such - and I broke new speed records agreeing. *G* So... I left with a grin... but also with a vow that any gift not bought before Christmas Eve can wait until next year! *G* |

I've never gone shopping on the night before Christmas but this year I shopped on Christmas eve, eve. It was a nightmare. 35 degrees and people collapsing in the underground car park because of the heat. This brought back recent memories. Thanks I think. Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind. Unknown |
