where the wild flowers grow

0 posted 2004-10-25 12:55 PM

Note: I know I haven't left many comments, but I'll catch up soon. Whilst I have time, I'm posting this poem. It may not be too great, but I wrote it on even more of a major whim than usual. Sorry.

Here, the light

shatters and tears
like
soft, wet crepe paper.

Then, it

dries and flies
away in the dark.

It's moments

like these
that I
forget to breathe..
seconds that stitch
themselves together
and somehow
form years and decades.

It is now
that I've found
life
is so short
and passes quickly.
I know that
someday

I will expire and you

make it so hard to
accept.

I have stumbled through life, aloof
and unconcerned with
my body
and my mind

constantly missing
that spark that only shines
once
and awhile.

But now,
I know
that I will die

someday
and you may
still need me.
You may
be young, or old, or I
might still be
without my grey..what then
will we do..
I still look upon you
and feel
too sick, broken and worthless
to make
the last bit of time stain you..

Uncertainty
is a fear of many,
an instinct
if you will.
never question your
mortality
it will only

shatter and tear
like

soft
wet
crepe paper

then

dry and
fly
away in the dark.

nodding here

you feel it too

and five a.m. is lonely at times, but then there are those two eyes staring brave...they take and they give back strength.

that's what I got out of this anyhow.

hugs

Excellent!

I've missed reading you Meg.

Excellent write ... the melancholy is deeply felt and quite certainly related to the particular moment (post partum). You can't imagine to be ever separate from your child, which I completely understand.

grinning, amazing what a little birth will do...changes your priorities and the way we see things...with great changes yet to come...

as you can see, I'm taking the positive from this one..

So good to see you and read you

Exactly, Meg.  A double edged sword, NOW you actually have to care about YOU too . . . just know that lil' soul is always going to love you.

never apologize for writing, this is beautiful.

I missed you!!

and yep..it scares the crap out of me too, to think I might have to leave the one that still needs me...so I try to make the most out of every day and teach her how to stand on her own if it comes to that

I wish I had a dollar for everytime this has come up about my son over 39  years, I would be rich!  Big responsibility these kids become and like Suzie says, now you have two to take care of you and her.  Well, that is what I got from this anywhoooo.

Hang in there, it gets so much better with age, this motherhood stuff.

I could have sworn I'd replied to this, but I've looked up and down the list five times now and apparently I haven't. Love the title and every word after. This is a powerful write. Very good...
