Between the Lines

Every night the fire dies down
when it should be the other way 'round.
Contemplating what has
and what is to be,
the darkness is a comfort for me.

I mouth the words to sing along
(this time of year)
not remembering where or when I learned them,
nor why they are unforgettable
compared to the loss
of more important memories.

"Next year will be better", I say to self
for only the third time in my life.
I have to believe, for what else is there...
if not hope.

M

*thank you Eric, for the kind words and for thinking of me

I think maybe the sing-along, unforgetable words are the "more important" things my friend, as they are the basis from which "life" springs and even when other things around us pass, the inspiration of such "more important" things provide us a foundation upon which to built new life.

Not that they make things any easier, or the other less important, but where one relegates itself to "true memory", the other is "truly unforgetable".  And, whereas the one is replacable, the other can never be replaced - thereby my feeling of which is the "more important".

I truly wish for you all the beauty that can spring from the one, and the full breath of richness that the other can provide to the rest of your life - - - neither ever goes away, but one fades into the mist as the other shines in the light.

the hope of what might be...

it's enough for now.

Hope - the essence of tomorrows which fills today - yes, hope - lose it not, for each moment brings us a new opportunity for joy- may joy be your next breath-

Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you.  Joy is a state of mind.
