I was always too much that
to ever be so much of this
dripping blood red roisen
it's
a lack of social skill
perhaps
but I concede
futility
as I perform the surgery
tie together my loose ends
to string the tourquoise jangling
covering the scar
I see
where laughter was removed.

there were weatherboards that would
have shown the break of day had they
had a bit of light beneath
there were creaking grooves too smooth
and wood was curled there at his feet
as he nodded knowledge there
in the rocking chair
he glared
surrounded by the land
farmed dead
like cataracts in his blue eye
and I swore that he saw me:
glaring at me
in direct

and Daddy swore that he was blind.

Whittlings
and rocking chairs
carved in miniature
I cared
that someone slight would sit there and
watch him
rocking
sun go down...
as he glared at me
one-eyed
smiling at my lemonade
pulp
I swiped my lips and said:

"Damn if it ain't hot today."

He cackled, rocking, "yep"
he left
curls of me
in one fell swoop
shaking his ole tired head
laughing in the groove
of it
listening to great Aunt Rose
singing in the field...

Like the whisper of the whippoorwill we take our daily pill. Thanks for the water.

The touch of this

OMG Serenity
I Love poetry like this, so human. so warm, so real...:-)

The capture of a few moments of time, compacted into a few, short sentances...
Truthful descriptions, no holds barred..

What you have done is take a rough wood-block of time and carved it down, the shavings that were not a poem now lay as waste on the old mans warped floor.

"Whittlings
and rocking chairs
carved in miniature
I cared
that someone slight would sit there and
watch him
rocking
sun go down..."

I cannot say enough about how this poem effects me, in a warm way, I am very fond of "people" poems..

Come read to me some poem,
Some simple and heartfelt lay,
That shall soothe this restless feeling
And banish the thoughts of day.

and curtsey

and after a conversation with Bri, this one pretty much wrote itself.

I was a little city girl out of place in foot-washing Baptist Bible-belt, and for a little girl to casually say "damn" in a town where grown ups didn't dare to cuss almost made my great uncle walter laugh his teeth out of his mouth.

Thanks all for reading, and thanks Bri, for helping me to remember and put it in perspective.
